Ingredients
- Burrata cheese (1 ball, about 8 oz), preferably chilled
- Cherry or grape tomatoes (1 pint), halved
- Fresh basil leaves (1/4 cup), roughly chopped or torn
- Extra virgin olive oil (2 tablespoons)
- Balsamic glaze or reduction (1 tablespoon)
- Flaky sea salt (1/2 teaspoon)
- Freshly ground black pepper (1/4 teaspoon)
- Crusty bread or crostini (for serving)
Instructions
- Step 1: On a large serving platter or shallow bowl, arrange the halved cherry or grape tomatoes evenly around the perimeter, leaving a space in the center for the cheese.
- Step 2: Carefully place the whole ball of Burrata cheese directly into the center of the prepared platter, taking care not to break the delicate skin.
- Step 3: Drizzle the 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil generously over both the tomatoes and the Burrata cheese.
- Step 4: Drizzle the 1 tablespoon of balsamic glaze over the entire dish, ensuring some falls onto the tomatoes and some on the cheese itself for visual appeal.
- Step 5: Sprinkle the torn or chopped fresh basil leaves over the tomatoes and cheese, then finish the appetizer by seasoning the dish liberally with flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Step 6: Serve immediately at room temperature with slices of crusty bread or crostini for scooping.
Notes
- This fresh appetizer is best enjoyed immediately; if you must store leftovers, refrigerate them, but be aware the Burrata will stiffen and the tomatoes may lose texture.
- Avoid reheating this dish entirely; if serving refrigerated leftovers, allow the platter to sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes to soften the cheese and revive the aromas.
- Elevate the presentation and flavor by adding a thin layer of thinly sliced turkey prosciutto or sun-dried tomatoes alongside the fresh tomatoes for a salty, savory contrast.
- To achieve that signature creamy texture, remove the Burrata from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes prior to assembly, as true room temperature is essential for unlocking its rich, buttery interior.
