Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 cups cooked chicken breast, diced or shredded
- 4 slices turkey bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
- 1/2 cup ranch dressing
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub buns
- 1/4 cup finely diced celery
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded Romaine lettuce
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the ingredients. Ensure the chicken is cooked and diced into small pieces. Cook the turkey bacon until very crisp, then crumble it into small bits. Finely dice the celery.
- Step 2: Create the "chopped" mixture. Place the diced chicken, crumbled turkey bacon, shredded cheese, and diced celery onto a clean cutting board. Using a large knife, repeatedly chop the ingredients together until they are finely minced and thoroughly combined.
- Step 3: Dress the filling. Transfer the chopped mixture to a medium bowl. Add the ranch dressing and black pepper. Stir thoroughly until all the ingredients are evenly coated and the mixture is creamy.
- Step 4: Prepare the rolls. Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, ensuring you do not cut all the way through, creating a pocket. If desired, lightly warm or toast the interior of the rolls for a better texture.
- Step 5: Assemble the sandwiches. Evenly distribute the chopped chicken mixture among the four prepared hoagie rolls. Gently press the filling into the roll, then top the mixture in each sandwich with a generous layer of shredded Romaine lettuce before serving.
Notes
- For best results, store the prepared chopped mixture separately in an airtight container for up to 3 days, and only assemble the sandwiches right before serving to keep the lettuce crisp.
- While the filling is served cold, lightly toasting the interior cut of your hoagie rolls gives a lovely crisp contrast and prevents the ranch dressing from immediately soaking the bread.
- Serve this hearty sub alongside dill pickle spears or crunchy kettle chips to complement the creamy texture and rich flavor of the ranch filling.
- Ensure your turkey bacon is truly cooked to an extra-crisp state; this crunchy element is essential, as the fine chopping process softens the other ingredients into a creamy spread.
