Ingredients
- Fresh Green Beans: 1.5 pounds, trimmed
- Thick-Cut Beef Bacon: 8 slices
- Light Brown Sugar: 1/4 cup, packed
- Soy Sauce (low sodium): 1/4 cup
- Unsalted Butter: 2 tablespoons, melted
- Garlic Powder: 1 teaspoon
- Black Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the thick-cut turkey bacon slices into halves or thirds. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper until the brown sugar begins to dissolve, forming the crack glaze.
- Step 3: Place the trimmed green beans into the prepared baking dish. Pour the glaze mixture evenly over the beans and toss gently to ensure they are fully coated. Spread the beans into a relatively even layer.
- Step 4: Lay the pieces of beef bacon evenly across the top of the glazed green beans, ensuring they cover the beans as much as possible without fully overlapping.
- Step 5: Bake for 30 to 40 minutes. The green beans should be tender-crisp, and the beef bacon should be cooked through and slightly crispy along the edges.
- Step 6: Remove the dish from the oven. Carefully toss the green beans to coat them with the caramelized glaze and beef bacon drippings accumulated at the bottom of the dish before serving hot.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, knowing the beans will soften slightly as the sweet glaze sets.
- Reheat on a foil-lined sheet pan in a 300°F oven for 8-10 minutes to crisp the beef bacon edges and properly melt the savory glaze back into the beans.
- Finish this rich side dish with a light sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds or crushed red pepper flakes to add texture and a pleasant pop of counter-flavor.
- Since this glaze relies on a strong soy base, taste the mixture *before* coating the beans; if it tastes too intensely salty, stir in an extra tablespoon of brown sugar for balance.
