Ingredients
- Boursin Garlic & Fine Herbs Cheese: 1 (5.2 oz) package, softened
- Cream Cheese: 4 ounces, softened
- Fresh or Frozen Cranberries: 1 cup
- Granulated Sugar: 1/4 cup
- Orange Juice: 2 tablespoons
- Water: 1 tablespoon
- Fresh Thyme or Rosemary sprigs: For garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the cranberry compote by combining the cranberries, granulated sugar, orange juice, and water in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the cranberries begin to burst and the sauce thickens slightly (about 8-10 minutes). Remove from heat and let the compote cool completely to room temperature.
- Step 2: While the compote cools, prepare the whipped base. Place the softened Boursin cheese and the softened cream cheese into the bowl of a food processor or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment.
- Step 3: Process the mixture: Beat or pulse the cheeses for 1 to 2 minutes, scraping down the sides as necessary, until the mixture is completely smooth, light, and airy. Avoid over-mixing once the desired consistency is achieved.
- Step 4: Assemble the dip: Transfer the whipped cheese mixture onto a shallow serving plate or into a small bowl, spreading it evenly across the surface.
- Step 5: Garnish and chill: Spoon the cooled cranberry compote over the center of the whipped Boursin layer. Garnish with a few fresh thyme or rosemary sprigs, if desired. Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld before serving with crackers or toasted baguette slices.
Notes
- Store any leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, remembering that the dip tastes best if allowed to sit out for 10 minutes before serving again to soften the base slightly.
- Since this is intended as a chilled dip, reheating is not advised, but if your cranberry compote thickens too much upon chilling, stir in a teaspoon of hot water to restore its ideal saucy consistency.
- For an especially festive presentation, try serving the dip alongside thin, crispy slices of tart green apples or lightly toasted challah bread instead of standard crackers.
- Chef's Tip: To achieve the desired smooth, light texture, ensure both the Boursin and cream cheese are fully at room temperature before whipping, as cold cheese will result in a lumpy or overly stiff base.
