Embrace the warmth of Italy with this Italian Herb and Cheese Bread. Infused with fragrant herbs and rich cheese, its golden crust envelops a soft, flavorful interior.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
  3. Step 3: Mix the ingredients until combined, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Step 4: Incorporate the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese into the dough, kneading gently to evenly distribute the cheese throughout.
  5. Step 5: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Step 6: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once risen, shape the dough into a loaf and place it into a greased loaf pan. Allow it to rise again for another 30 minutes before baking.
  7. Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • To store your Italian Herb and Cheese Bread, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or foil and keep it at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze it for longer freshness.
  • When reheating, slice the bread and warm it in a toaster oven or regular oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-10 minutes to restore its delightful crustiness.
  • For a delicious serving suggestion, try pairing the bread with a bowl of marinara sauce for dipping or enjoy it alongside a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • As a chef’s tip, make sure your water is just warm enough to activate the yeast; too hot will kill it, while too cold won’t activate it properly, leading to less rise in your bread.
