Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) Unsalted Butter, softened
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1/2 cup Whole Milk
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Culinary Lavender Buds
- 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5-inch loaf pan. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and the culinary lavender buds, rubbing them together vigorously with your fingertips for about one minute to release the essential oils.
- Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and the lavender sugar mixture together until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 3 minutes). Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Step 3: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- Step 4: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the whole milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix on low speed only until the batter is just combined; be careful not to overmix.
- Step 5: Scrape the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a wooden skewer or toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Step 6: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Store slices wrapped tightly in plastic wrap or in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to keep the crumb moist and the fragrance intact.
- To revive a slice that has been chilled or stored overnight, wrap it loosely in foil and warm it in a 300°F (150°C) oven for about 5 minutes until the butter softens.
- For an elegant serving suggestion, pair the lightly fragrant bread with a quality lemon curd or a subtle honey-vanilla glaze.
- The essential step for maximum flavor infusion is vigorously rubbing the lavender buds into the granulated sugar, which creates a highly aromatic ‘lavender sugar’ base for your batter.
