Ingredients
Scale
- 12 ounces white chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier or Cointreau)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest, finely grated
- 1/4 teaspoon orange extract
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for coating
- 2 ounces white chocolate, for dipping (optional)
- Orange zest, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Place the chopped white chocolate in a heat-safe bowl. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Do not boil.
- Step 2: Pour the hot cream over the white chocolate. Let it sit for 1 minute to soften the chocolate, then whisk until smooth and completely melted. Stir in the orange liqueur, orange zest, and orange extract.
- Step 3: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the chocolate mixture to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, until firm enough to scoop.
- Step 4: Once the mixture is firm, use a small spoon or melon baller to scoop out portions. Roll each portion gently between your palms to form a round truffle. Roll each truffle in powdered sugar to coat.
- Step 5: (Optional) Melt the 2 ounces of white chocolate in a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Dip each truffle into the melted chocolate, tapping off any excess. Place on parchment paper to set.
- Step 6: (Optional) While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with orange zest for garnish. Refrigerate the truffles for at least 30 minutes to allow the chocolate coating to set completely. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Store these truffles in the fridge in a single layer to prevent sticking and preserve their round shape.
- These are best served cold straight from the refrigerator, so no reheating is needed!
- For an elegant presentation, serve these truffles on a chilled platter alongside fresh orange segments.
- Don't skip pressing the plastic wrap directly onto the chocolate ganache; it's the key to preventing a grainy texture.
